Carlsbad Desalination Plant Project
Project Summary
Client: Kiewit Infrastructure West
Scope: 50 MGD desalination facility, 10-mile conveyance pipeline, 900+ utility crossings, 1,750-foot tunnel
As part of the team supporting the construction of the nation’s largest and most energy-efficient seawater desalination plant, I was responsible for deploying and maintaining the project’s IT network infrastructure. My role involved assisting in the design, configuration, and installation of a robust technology stack, which included ISP integration, Layer 3 switches, servers, and wireless access points.
I provided a combination of remote and scheduled on-site support to ensure consistent connectivity and reliable system performance across the jobsite. Given the complexity and size of the build, it was critical to deliver a stable and scalable IT environment to support both field and office operations throughout the project's various phases.
This high-profile initiative received national recognition, earning the DBIA 2016 Design-Build Project of the Year and the ACEC 2017 Grand Award for Engineering Excellence. My contributions helped enable smooth coordination and communication for one of the most demanding infrastructure builds in Southern California.
